DHS in the Hood

On July 10, 2013,  at approximately 5pm – MST, multiple law enforcement vehicles pulled into a relatively quiet neighborhood on Poplar Street in Denver, Colorado. One by one cruisers and SUVs came from all directions lining both sides of the street in addition to numerous, but apparent unmarked cars. At least one vehicle was clearly marked as that of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS); a large fully armored vehicle — black and well over a story high. This assault vehicle came with gun holes in the thick bullet-proof side windows,  exterior skids and a top-side hatch complete with  an agent wearing the now familiar Darth Vader‘esque looking tactical gear.

The assault vehicle was very similar to — if not in actuality, the MRAP or Mine Resistant Armor Protected Vehicle featured in this video:

This intimidating, yet undefined gathering went on for some time. After more than an hour of what appeared to be an assemblage of sorts – with few feet hitting the actual ground, the vehicles then rolled out in a very quiet, tightly structured “funeral procession” type exit.

Shortly thereafter, a ladder engine came barreling up the road with more police vehicles in tow heading in the same direction the unusual caravan had headed a short time before. This incident may or may not be related however, it is worth mentioning until there are more details to help shed light on this story.

The Missing Media

There have been no reports on local television, in local papers or online; including on the recently updated “news” tab of the DHS ICE website, who has Special Agent in Charge (SAIC) field offices in nearby Englewood, whose detention facility –  Denver Contract Detention Facility, is just down the street in the city of Aurora. Nor is there any mention in local “police blotters’ or on the Denver PDs website.

Residents were not warned in advance as one would think they would be if this were just a drill. So, was this just a drill? Or, was it instead a staging ground for a raid elsewhere? If so, where and what happened and why is there no mention in the news?

What’s Really Going On??

To go from having a peaceful conversation in a friends front yard to witnessing police/DHS activity on this scale was quite surreal. The fact that there seems to be no available information only increases one’s curiosity and the idea that Denver’ites would casually accept a roll-up of this caliber in their neighborhood — without question, is a testament of how docile (or intimidated) a nation we have become.

To deploy this level of city and state resources without accountability and due diligence in reporting is wholly unacceptable. If you have any information on this incident, please share along with any links or other comments below.

    Wow!! I guess you know that I, too, live in Denver (actually, more like Aurora, as I am on the little strip of land called Denver which goes up to the airport). I have not heard anything either, but your account piques my interest.

      Please if you find anything let me know. I am way curious and have never (outside of marching in DC) seen anything like this, especially in a quiet neighborhood.

    I am totally convinced that 1984 was early, or late, depending on how you see it. There is no longer any privacy of any sort. TSA, the rogue organization that rifles through your personal possessions at will AND TAKES WHAT THEY WANT by the way (I commute from the USA to the Middle East and I tamper-proof certain items which are often opened and things missing, which I know because I keep an inventory) has absolutely NO oversight. The goon squad which you mention in your post could have just been reconnoitering or having lunch on their way to their “real mission.” Or they could have been casing your ‘hood for some secret something-or-other that you will never know about. I am used to these things happening in Israel, for good and obvious reasons, but I see no good nor obvious reason for this kind of invasion of privacy and safety and other things that used to make living in the USA such a nice and comfy thing. Our Founding Fathers must be revolving in their graves.
