Twisted Tuesday’s Mix Tape: Going to Jail

going-to-jail-mix-tape

I was train hopping for the past two days and every time I tried to make my Twisted Tuesday’s Mix Tape I was unable to for lack of an internet signal. Trust me, if Amtak says they have WiFi…don’t count on it.

Alas, I am home and a day behind so without further ado, here are five songs that “feature” crimes I [or you] could go to jail for…

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds — The Mercy Seat

A man on death row facing the electric chair, “an eye for an eye” he sings, but insists he “told the truth”. I think he is professing to be innocent of murder, but going to take the punishment with pride.

Meg&Dia – Cardigan Weather

If it wasn’t such a serious topic, this song would be funny. Imean come’on, who kills their husband and sews the body into their mattress? On a side note and as a bonus, if you are unfamiliar with Dia Frampton and like unique voices, you will love her. I fell in love with her voice after she covered Kanye West’s “Heartless” on the first season on “The Voice”.

Blitzen Trapper Black River Killer

Pretty self-explanatory by the title. This song is about a serial killer who gets away with it over and over.

Warren Zevon – Excitable Boy

I love Warren and his music, but I have to admit, although I have heard this song a million times, I never actually had listened to the lyrics.Pretty heavy stuff.

Seems, many “crime” songs sound Pop’ish more than serious.

The Ballad Of Bonnie & Clyde – Georgie Fame & Blue Flames

I saved the best of the batch for last. I grew up with this song. My mom’s brothers all had a band and this was one they played often. One of my cousins used to want to “play” Bonnie & Clyde, but he wasn’t interested in robbing banks and stuff, no, he just wanted to act out this song because at the end…when they say, “and they died…” well that was his favorite part because we had to “die” which meant falling to the ground where he would conviently fall on top of me.

Boys will be boys huh?

And just to show I am not so stuck in the past, here is Beyonce’s version as a bonus track.

LOL thanks Jen. I actually did the post with the vids, but had to take them out for it to post the signal was so bad on the train. Had to reinsert them once I got home. My readers must have thought I was nuts with basically a black post posted all day :p … I’m looking forward to this week and i do want to submit something for your other site soon.
