Samsung Admits Their Smart TVs Spy On You

Imagine turning on your new “smart” TV with voice command; imagine the President comes on and you suddenly go off with a litany of curse words for the country’s leader before you command your television to turn the channel. Now, imagine a knock on your door from the FBI or Secret Service …

Far fetched? Not necessarily.

In Samsung’s privacy policy “SmartTV Supplement” they admit that not only are you being recorded, but that your information is being shared. The clause reads,

Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party.”

Corynne McSherry, the intellectual property director at the Electronic Frontier Foundation thinks this is merely so that Samsung can improve upon voice recognition commands…
