They Come In Peace

alien peaceI love watching Ancient Aliens. In fact, I love watching most things about space, the cosmos, and the potential for discovering intelligent life “out there” … somewhere. Science and technology have come a long way and with it windows into the universe are clearer than ever before.

Our minds have expanded in myriad ways and now more than ever the belief in extraterrestrial life is common and even socially acceptable. What I don’t understand is why many think these beings would be more technologically advanced than we are? Also, why is it so many of us think E.T.’s would be aggressive towards us?

Maybe it is us Earthlings that are the advanced ones, and maybe it is our own aggression that keeps them from freely showing their lil green faces more often? Otherwise, I think they’d B4Peace!

I’m a Peace-Loving Sci-Fi nut myself ;) and I have asked that exact question for as long as I can remember. I think the biggest obstacle to actually finding life on other planets is time. With time being infinite in either direction, it’s not so much of “where” the ET’s are, as “when”. :)

Reblogged this on Rafferty's Rules and commented:
I can’t speak for anybody else, but I believe thus:

If aliens visit Earth, their very presence here attests to their technological advancement. After all, we are barely capable of sending unmanned missions to our nearest planets.

If aliens are more technologically advanced, they are just as likely to be aggressive as friendly. If you look at human history, the vast majority of technological leaps come from the military (whether at war or peace) or from civilians during wartime. Hence the more technologically advanced a *human* society is, the more warlike they are likely to be. In the absence of evidence, it is prudent to assume visitors to our planet are aggressive until proven otherwise.

Even if aliens are friendly to humanity the following apply:

1/ Initial contact needs to be slow and careful. I definitely don’t want humanity to go the way of the Native Americans and I’m quite sure our visitors don’t want to go the way of the aliens in War of the Worlds.

2/ Stating that aliens are friendly towards humans or that aliens are aggressive towards humans is like sting that humans love animals or that humans are murderers. People range from Mother Theresa to Charlie Manson and everything in between. We have scientists that experiment on anything new and animal rights activists and everything in between. We have soldiers and terrorists and peace activists and pacifists and everything in between.
What reason is there to believe that aliens would be any different?

I think the higher tech comes from the idea that they’re going to find us first ,which tends to mean they have better space travel capabilities. Could also be a little bit of species inadequacy feelings. As for the aggression, it could stem from the ‘fear of the stranger’ instinct in most humans. Besides, alien fiction would be boring if aliens only wanted peace. I’ve read that scientists who believe in aliens tend to believe that they wouldn’t be aggressive.

You’re probably right about aliens avoiding us. If they had any sense, they would analyze our species before visiting. One look at how we treat each other and they’d put up a few detours signs around our universe.

I agree. We see in others what we fear in ourselves. Makes sense that we would see aliens as aggressive.

I absolutely love Ancient Aliens and have all the DVDs :D I actually wrote a novel about ancient science (The Everything Theory) because it is so incredibly strange how no one can clearly see how advanced ancient technology really is.

If I was ET looking down on the earth I’d think, ‘no way! they’re so aggressive. I’m not landing until B4Peace is in full swing!’ :D

Thank you for the pingbacks. :)

Thought-provoking post. I never really thought about the aliens possibly being less advanced and scared of us.

You are very welcome. Yanno…IF they have visited here then they must be more tech savvy than we, but that could be the only superior :advancement”. As for whether they’d be afraid of us…I would be. I mean the US alone is wonderful at making enemies ;)

I agree. I think there is aliens and I think they will be friendly. But if they ever “appear” to society as a whole, they will be greeted with tanks and guns and automatically not shown a good faith welcoming. So sad.

I love to think of Aliens who are watching us like parents watching kids in a sandbox: don’t let them run wild and don’t let them blow the place up… other than that, let them figure out how to live peacefully together before we show them how to get around the galaxy ;) Your post is a good contribution to peaceful understanding among all beings – Thanks! ♥ Tomas

Tomas thank you. I stumbled across that peace pushin’ dude (or dudette) alien image and just had to write something in correlation.
