Twisted Tuesday’s Mix-Tape: The Color of Music

twisted-tuesdays-mix-tape-color-of-musichappy-holidays-cheri-speakHow about some NON-holiday music wrapped in holiday color?

blue-october

I discovered I loved Blue October after I dug into the deeper cuts on their CDs. This song is one of the “hidden” songs at the end of the CD that most people miss altogether. It is one of the most beautiful love songs I have ever heard.

pink-floyd

This song (and this version) is probably my very favorite Pink Floyd song. My ex-husband had a boot-legged version of this a long time ago (no idea how he got it) and I loved it. Whether you are/were part of the scene, Pink Floyd music is undeniably profound and moving.

white-stripes

I have a lot of respect for Jack White. Dude has done SO much in the music world, especially behind the scenes. His involvement with Dolly Parton is intriguing. Although I really like this song, I have to admit I prefer Melanie Matinez’s version which you can check out here if you are so inclined.

deep-purple

I think everyone knows this song although it’s probably been a while for most. I like Deep Purple and the message in this song is universal as we are all “perfect strangers” no matter how much we may think we know someone and the past always plays on the present of who we are.

red-house-painters

Not many people are as familiar with Red House Painters. This is a band I was turned onto earlier this year and I really dig their sound. They have other great songs, but I think this one is my favorite.

That Pink Floyd song was on a mix-tape someone gave to me many many years ago, along with Goin to California by Led Zep! I listened to that mix-tape over and over again, on my cheap little walkman as I travelled via Greyhound to Boston.. Bitter sweet memories 🙂

Oh my, I have been on way too many Greyhound buses and not so long ago. I totally understand!

Fantastic picks, especially loved the Red House Painters which though I’m almost positive is new-to-me, sounds very familiar.

  3. Frank’s right. Great quote. I’m a fan of the Red House Painters. Love their stuff. One of the members of the band was one of the band members in Almost Famous. (A little trivia)

I love the White Stripes, and it was fun to hear that cover. I thought she did a good job with it. Let’s see, color songs–I love White Room and Tangled Up in Blue.
